T53 – Power-Driven Rotary (Oil) Pump

Identification and Location

The power-driven rotary pump is located on the forward face of the accessory gearbox and is driven by the N1 system.

System Design

The power-driven rotary (oil) pump is a two-element vane-type pump. The pressure element supplies all the pressurized oil to the engine components and bearing areas. The scavenge element returns scavenge oil to the aircraft mounted oil tank.

One element supplies lubricating oil pressure; the other element
returns scavenge oil to the aircraft mounted oil tank. A common
splined drive shaft drives both elements.

Oil Temperature Bulb

Identification & Location

An engine inlet oil temperature bulb is installed in the pressure side of the power-driven rotary (oil) pump.

System Design

The bulb generates an electrical signal which is transmitted to a matched direct reading temperature gage in the aircraft, which is a coil resistance type temperature bulb.
